It’s not hyperbole to say that Rafael‘s Iron Dome is the world’s most deployed missile defense system against rockets, mortars, artillery shells, and air breathers like UAVs, with more than 2,500 intercepts and a success rate of more than 90 percent. On the system’s 10th anniversary, we discuss the program with Shlomo Toaff, vice president at Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, which manufactures Iron Dome.

Toaff looks back on the challenges that Rafael faced in developing Iron Dome, its evolution to meet new threats like cruise missiles in a naval environment, and teaming with Raytheon to provide two Iron Dome batteries to the U.S. Army.
