American aerospace and defense giant Lockheed Martin has announced a strategic change at the helm of its Australia and New Zealand operations, appointing Jeremy King as its new chief executive for the region. This appointment comes at a crucial time, amidst the company’s escalating involvement in key military projects across both nations.

An Australian Defense Veteran Takes the Helm

Jeremy King, a veteran with over 30 years of experience in the Australian Defence Force and former head of Joint Aviation Systems for Australia’s Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG), will assume his new role on February 23. He will report directly to Jay Pitman, president of Lockheed Martin International.

Jay Pitman welcomed the appointment, stating: “Jeremy’s exceptional depth of experience in large-scale defense acquisitions, combined with his long-standing commitment to customer-centric leadership, make him the ideal candidate to drive Lockheed Martin’s growth in Australia and New Zealand.”

King will succeed Warren “Macca” McDonald, who has been with Lockheed Martin since July 2021. Throughout his career with the Australian Defence Force, King led major capability programs such as the MRH-90 and Chinook projects.

Strategic Context: Guided Munitions and Robust Partnerships

King’s appointment comes amidst Lockheed Martin’s increasing involvement in Australian defense initiatives. The company is stepping up its participation in Australia’s „Guided Weapons and Explosive Ordnance Enterprise (GWEO),” a program aiming to locally manufacture guided munitions such as the Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS) and the Precision Strike Missile (PrSM).

The Australian military already operates a wide range of Lockheed Martin systems, including the F-35A Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter and the MH-60R naval helicopter. The new CEO expressed his enthusiasm for his upcoming role: “I am eager to leverage my extensive program leadership experience and commitment to customer success in leading Lockheed Martin’s efforts in Australia and New Zealand. I look forward to strengthening our partnerships and delivering the advanced solutions our customers rely on.”

This appointment underscores Lockheed Martin’s commitment to reinforcing its presence and deepening its strategic relationships in the Indo-Pacific region, a key area for global security.
