In today’s increasingly fragmented world, where diversity is often viewed with hesitation, a pioneering pedagogical initiative has proven that the future belongs to empathy. Between February and June 2026, the „Spiru Haret” National College in Ploiești became the epicenter of a social and educational experiment, transforming the abstract concept of „inclusion” into a tangible reality for Romanian students and their partners in Turkey.
Digital Diplomacy: When Education Transcends Geographical Boundaries
The eTwinning project „We Are All One,” coordinated by professors Anca Tănase and Mirela Popa, represented far more than a simple exchange of ideas. For five months, digital platforms served as meeting grounds for international teams who discovered that cultural differences are not barriers, but invaluable resources.
According to the coordinators from „Spiru Haret” College, the foundation of this endeavor was authentic collaboration. Students were placed in positions of managing shared responsibilities within a multicultural environment, moving far beyond the status of mere theoretical observers.
Self-Discovery: The First Step Toward Accepting „The Other”
The project’s starting point was introspection. Through the „All About Me” campaign, students projected their passions and values onto digital platforms like Padlet, offering their Turkish partners a window into their personal universes. This phase, highlighted by the creation of the project’s official logo, emphasized a vital lesson: to understand external diversity, one must first define their own identity and learn to value the contribution of every individual within a community.
Empathy as an Antidote: Lessons from „Someone Else’s Shoes”
Perhaps the most profound experience of the project was the activity „A Day in Someone Else’s Shoes.” Students did not just discuss discrimination; they created collaborative stories, symbolically „stepping into” the lived experiences of people from completely different backgrounds. This mirroring exercise functioned as a mechanism to dismantle stereotypes, proving that storytelling remains one of the most powerful tools for civic education and humanization.
Green Unity: Merging Sustainability with Social Responsibility
One of the most creative stages of the project highlighted the link between environmental responsibility and social inclusion. Using recycled materials, students created symbolic artistic works dedicated to unity and acceptance. At the same time, mixed international teams produced thematic videos and interactive games, demonstrating that protecting the environment and building an inclusive society are based on the same core values: respect, responsibility, and cooperation.
The Inclusion Manifesto: A Youth-Led Vision for the Future
The concrete results of the project culminated in the drafting of the „Inclusion Manifesto,” a programmatic document co-authored by Romanian and Turkish students. Moving beyond rules imposed by adults, the young participants defined their own principles for coexistence, promoting them through podcasts and digital presentations that showcase a highly active spirit of European citizenship.
Game On: An „Escape Room” for a World Without Barriers
The project concluded on an innovative note with the „Inclusion Escape Room.” This gamified evaluation did not test theoretical knowledge, but rather the pure ability to cooperate under pressure and find common solutions in an international context.
As highlighted by professors Anca Tănase and Mirela Popa, the impact of this educational journey goes far beyond the digital skills acquired. At the end of the „We Are All One” project, the message remaining in the halls of „Spiru Haret” College is one of immense strength: we are different, but together we are stronger. Through eTwinning, inclusion has ceased to be a mere dictionary term, becoming a way of life for a new generation of students.
