The Ranger R10-3DX can track multiple targets at once and operate at fixed sites or on mobile platforms

Teledyne FLIR Defense has unveiled a small radar designed to detect and track drone threats. Called the Ranger R10-3DX, the system is intended for missions including counter-drone operations, force protection, airport and border security, and coastal surveillance.

“Small unmanned aircraft continue to present growing security challenges across military installations, airports, and other key infrastructure sites worldwide,” said Rob Tarantino, senior vice president of surveillance at Teledyne FLIR Defense. He said the system offers a compact, affordable solution for early warning and tracking evolving drone threats.

Wide-area coverage and AI-assisted target classification

The company said the Ranger R10-3DX uses digital beam-forming technology to provide continuous wide-area coverage and rapid threat detection. Artificial intelligence supports target classification and the simultaneous tracking of multiple objects.

The system is designed to distinguish among drones, aircraft, birds, people, and vehicles while maintaining a compact footprint.

Detection range depends on the target

Teledyne FLIR Defense says the radar can detect small drones at distances of up to three kilometers. It can detect pedestrians beyond six kilometers and vehicles at more than 12 kilometers.

The Ranger R10-3DX can be installed at a fixed site or mounted on mobile platforms. The company says it is also designed for use in austere environments.
