UAE defense conglomerate EDGE Group has signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Angola to provide the African nation with command and control systems (C2) dedicated to border security missions, Breaking Defense reports.
Emirati Delegation Visit
The announcement was made during a visit by an Emirati delegation led by UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
EDGE Group CEO Statement
EDGE Group CEO Hamad Al Marar stated that the agreement underscores EDGE’s core strategy of delivering advanced, UAE-developed defense and security solutions to international partners. He also noted that Angola is a forward-thinking nation with a clear vision for modernizing its national security architecture, making it an ideal partner in shaping the future of border control.
Beacon Red to Deliver C2 Systems and Training
Under the agreement, EDGE’s entity Beacon Red will deliver „command and control (C2) systems and mission-specific training to enhance situational awareness, operational readiness, and rapid response at critical border points.”
AI-Powered Border Security Solution
The C2 border security deal will integrate „AI-powered analytics, surveillance UAVs, secure communications, and big data management with traditional defence systems and layered physical security,” according to the statement.
Prior Agreement with Angola
This is not the first agreement between EDGE Group and Angola. In 2023, EDGE subsidiary Abu Dhabi Ship Building signed a contract worth €1 billion ($1.07 billion) with the Angolan navy to procure three 71-meter corvettes.
Focus on Exports to Africa
This deal aligns with goals set by Al Marar earlier this year, who stated that the firm will be focusing on exports to African countries, citing the fast growth happening in the region.
