Senior Iranian officials have re-emphasized the continuous and strategic nature of military cooperation with Russia, describing it as an open and long-standing bond, despite growing suspicions about the transfer of sensitive intelligence. This declaration comes as the United States voices its concern and confirms close monitoring of potential intelligence collaboration between Moscow and Tehran, allegedly targeting American assets, while the White House adopts a dismissive tone.
Tehran Affirms Unveiled Military Cooperation
A high-ranking Iranian diplomat recently asserted that the military partnership between Tehran and Moscow is nothing new, but rather a fundamental component of a well-established strategic relationship. The official characterized these ties as continuous and transparent, having existed for years and projected to endure into the future. „We have a strategic partnership with Russia,” the diplomat stated, adding, „Military cooperation between Iran and Russia is nothing new. It is not a secret. It has existed in the past, it exists now, and it will continue to exist in the future.”
When questioned about potential Russian assistance in identifying American targets, the diplomat acknowledged not possessing detailed military intelligence but reiterated the robust nature of bilateral relations. „As far as I know, we have a very good partnership with Russia. They help us in many different directions, but I do not have detailed information,” he added, suggesting broad collaboration without delving into tactical specifics.
Washington’s Vigilance and Conflicting Public Stance
Amidst these pronouncements, the United States indicated its awareness of reports detailing Russia’s alleged provision of intelligence to Iran concerning the positioning of American forces. A senior US defense official affirmed that American intelligence services are the most advanced globally and constantly monitor „everything.” „Our commanders are aware of everything. We have the best intelligence services in the world,” the official stated, assuring the public, „We know who talks to whom, why they talk to them, how accurate that information might be, how to integrate that into our battle plans.”
In stark contrast, the US President publicly downplayed the significance of the issue, dismissing a journalistic inquiry on the matter as „stupid” and avoiding a direct answer. Subsequently, a White House spokesperson contended that any potential intelligence sharing between Russia and Iran would „clearly” not alter the conflict situation with the Islamic Republic, suggesting a divergent perspective within the administration itself.
Media Reports Corroborate Sensitive Information Exchange
American media reports, citing multiple US intelligence sources, have corroborated claims that Moscow is supplying Tehran with detailed information regarding the location and movements of American troops, vessels, and aircraft. These disclosures underscore a deepening strategic cooperation between the two powers, carrying significant implications for regional and global security, and fueling concerns about escalating tensions and risks to American forces in the region.
