Tactical terminals for beyond-line-of-sight communications

US-based Lite Coms has been selected by Boeing Defence Australia to supply tactical satellite communications terminals for Australia’s LAND 4140 program. The initiative is aimed at modernizing command, control, communications and computer systems used by the Australian Army.

Under the agreement, Lite Coms will provide LITE SAT 1.3A terminals designed to deliver Beyond Line-Of-Sight, or BLOS, satellite communications in support of Australian Defence Force operations.

Lightweight equipment designed for rapid deployment

The LITE SAT 1.3A is a lightweight, rugged tactical satellite terminal intended for military and government users. It features a carbon-fiber reflector and is designed for fast, tool-free deployment.

The terminal is engineered to provide secure and resilient connectivity in challenging operational environments, supporting the transmission of mission-critical data where continuous communications are essential.

Lite Coms CEO Bob Jacobsen said the company’s selection for the program underscored the performance of the LITE SAT 1.3 terminal and the value of its solutions for military and government customers.

Australia accelerates C4I modernization

The LAND 4140 program is intended to modernize and strengthen land-based command, control, communications, computers and intelligence systems. Its objective is to deliver decision-making superiority by improving information exchange and coordination between command elements, sensors, weapons systems and land forces.

Boeing Defence Australia had previously been selected to deliver Class Two BLOS SATCOM ground terminals designed to provide faster, more reliable and uninterrupted communications in increasingly complex and contested operational environments.

Connectivity for multi-domain operations

The system being developed under the program will use high-speed, wideband SATCOM links to maintain data flows between elements of the Australian Defence Force. The capability is intended to support integrated operations in which land forces must communicate effectively with air, maritime, space and cyber units.

Matt Buckle, Boeing Defence Australia’s director of Joint Systems, said the capability would enable Australian forces to remain connected and operate with confidence in critical situations.

Boeing Defence Australia is also serving as the systems integrator for the Battle Management System, another major component being delivered under the LAND 4140 program.
