The mystery surrounding Embraer’s previously undisclosed customers has finally been lifted. The Brazilian aerospace manufacturer officially announced at the prestigious Singapore Airshow that Uzbekistan is the newest operator of its KC-390 military airlifter, while the Philippines has ordered a second batch of A-29 Super Tucano light attack aircraft. This revelation not only underscores Embraer’s continued success in the global defense market but also its strategic expansion into key regions.

Bosco da Costa Jr., President and CEO of Embraer Defense and Security, emphasized the significance of these agreements: “This is a clear demonstration that Embraer Defense and Security is ready for the future and is ready to support the most demanding air forces, including here in the Asia-Pacific region.”

KC-390 Takes Flight in Central Asia: Uzbekistan Becomes a Regional Pioneer

Uzbekistan’s acquisition of the KC-390 marks an absolute first: the Central Asian nation becomes the inaugural regional operator of this modern military transport aircraft. According to Embraer’s statements, the Uzbek Air Force will primarily utilize the KC-390 for transport and humanitarian missions, significantly enhancing their aerial capabilities. This strategic decision positions Uzbekistan as a key player in the region, equipped with a modernized military infrastructure adapted to contemporary challenges.

Philippines Doubles Down: Super Tucano Fleet Reaches 12 Aircraft

On the Southeast Asian front, the Philippines has reaffirmed its commitment to the A-29 Super Tucano aircraft by ordering a second batch of six units. This new acquisition, whose initial order was announced in December 2024 as coming from an „undisclosed customer,” brings the total number of Super Tucanos in the Philippine fleet to 12. The fleet expansion highlights the effectiveness and versatility of the Super Tucano aircraft in light attack and counter-insurgency missions, crucial for the internal security of the archipelago.

Global Success of the KC-390: A Continuously Ascending Trajectory

Since its launch in 2014, the KC-390 aircraft has achieved remarkable success worldwide. With 47 firm orders from nine countries and selection by two others, the platform is establishing itself as a top solution for military air transport. A recent example is South Korea, which ordered three aircraft in 2023 to augment the airlift capabilities of its Air Force.

The first of these aircraft, destined for South Korea, is already in the final assembly phase in Brazil, having left Embraer’s production line last December. Bosco da Costa Jr. confirmed that, following a series of flight tests and the integration of systems specific to the Korean Air Force’s requirements, delivery is scheduled for later this year, marking another important milestone in the KC-390’s global expansion.
