Following the recent approval of the nation’s annual budget by Greek lawmakers, Israeli defense firm Elbit Systems anticipates securing a significant contract to supply its PULS (Precision Universal Launching System) rocket artillery system to the Hellenic military. This decision marks a crucial step in enhancing Greece’s defensive capabilities and underscores a growing trend of strategic partnerships in the region.

Green Light for a Pivotal Acquisition

In a recent statement, Elbit Systems confirmed that the anticipated contract award is contingent upon, among other factors, the completion of commercial negotiations with the Hellenic Ministry of National Defense. While the exact contract value was not disclosed, the company indicated it would be „in an amount that is material to the company,” signaling a substantial transaction. Reports suggest Athens is looking to acquire 36 PULS systems, with the country’s parliamentary defense committee reportedly approving a $757 million purchase.

This acquisition is set against a broader backdrop of Greece pursuing multi-billion dollar procurements of Israeli air defense systems, part of an ambitious modernization drive for its military capabilities.

PULS System: Advanced Capabilities and European Footprint

Elbit Systems touts its PULS system as a comprehensive and cost-effective solution, adept at launching unguided rockets, precision-guided munitions, and missiles across various ranges. A key advantage highlighted is its full adaptability to existing wheeled and tracked platforms, promising significant reductions in maintenance and training costs for operators.

The PULS system’s appeal is evident in its success across the European market. Germany selected the system in February 2025 as part of the Euro Puls collaboration with KNDS Deutschland. The Netherlands signed a contract for it in May 2023, and Denmark acquired eight systems in 2023. Additionally, in April 2025, Elbit announced it had been chosen to provide more munitions for an unnamed European customer, further cementing its widespread adoption on the continent.

Strengthening the Greek-Israeli Defense Alliance

Ties between Israel and Greece have deepened considerably in recent years, with Israeli defense firms frequently showcasing their products in the Mediterranean nation. A „strategic” meeting hosted by Israel’s Ministry of Defense in March this year underscored the commitment of both nations to enhanced cooperation.

Beyond the PULS system, Israeli defense companies and their combat-tested air defense systems, such as Rafael Advanced Defense Systems’ Spyder and IAI’s Barak, are also expected to be selected as part of Athens’ broader acquisition of new air defenses. Greece has already procured Rafael’s Spike missiles. Separately, in 2023, Elbit was chosen, through a government-to-government deal, to establish and operate a flight school in Greece—an initiative lauded at the time by Israel’s Defense Minister as a reflection of the „excellent and developing relations” between the two countries.
