IAI cites increased global demand for defense systems and successful navigation of recent conflicts.

Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) announced record-breaking gross income for 2024 and an all-time high order backlog, largely driven by international demand. In a March 13th briefing, IAI President and CEO Boaz Levy and CFO Eran Anchikovsky highlighted the company’s growth and future plans, including a planned Initial Public Offering (IPO).

Levy cited a record $25 billion order backlog, representing a nearly $7 billion increase in new orders over the past six years. Approximately 80 percent of IAI’s revenue comes from international exports, a trend Levy attributes to a global increase in defense spending fueled by evolving warfare dynamics. He pointed to the shift of conflict from traditional battlefronts to urban areas and the significant changes occurring in Europe as key factors.

Success Amidst Conflict

IAI’s success continues despite, and potentially because of, Israel’s recent multi-front war. The company manufactures the Arrow air and missile defense system, a key component of Israel’s layered defense network that proved crucial in defending against attacks from Hamas, Houthi rebels, Hezbollah, and Iran. Levy emphasized that IAI fulfilled its international obligations, notably completing an Arrow sale to Germany in November 2023, without resorting to force majeure despite the challenging circumstances. The company’s response involved scaling up its manufacturing, support, and maintenance operations.

IPO on the Horizon

A key element of IAI’s future strategy is the planned IPO, which Levy considers crucial for both the company and Israel. Anchikovsky noted the potential for significant capital raising and leveraging the company’s strong financial position. While IAI awaits government approval and acknowledges competing political priorities within Israel, Levy expressed confidence that the IPO will proceed. Currently, IAI is one of Israel’s three largest defense companies, with Elbit Systems being the only publicly traded entity.

Autonomous D-9 Bulldozer

The briefing also showcased IAI’s technological advancements, including the autonomous D-9 bulldozer. This upgraded version of the IDF’s standard engineering platform incorporates cameras, sensors, and LiDAR, enabling autonomous operation, route planning, collision avoidance, and improved mission efficiency. IAI officials emphasized that the autonomous capabilities enhance safety and reduce risks for personnel operating in hazardous environments. The user interface features a portable workstation with a joystick-style controller.
