From Interim to Permanent Leadership

Boeing has officially appointed Steve Parker, a seasoned company veteran, as the CEO of its defense business. Previously serving as the interim chief executive, Parker steps into this role with extensive experience within the company’s various defense sectors.

Parker’s Extensive Experience

Since joining Boeing in 1988, Parker has held key positions, including chief operating officer for the defense unit. His leadership spanned multiple divisions, particularly those focused on vertical lift and the bombers and fighters portfolio. Boeing announced Parker’s immediate assumption of CEO duties in a recent statement.

CEO Praises Parker’s Leadership

Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg lauded Parker’s contributions, noting, „Under Steve’s leadership, our defense business has stabilized its operations, improved program execution, and strengthened relationships with our customers.” Ortberg highlighted Parker’s proven track record in manufacturing, program management, and fostering a strong organizational culture.

Transition in Leadership

Parker succeeds former defense CEO Ted Colbert, who left Boeing in September. During his tenure as COO from 2022 to 2024, Parker collaborated closely with Colbert, addressing critical supply chain challenges and managing manufacturing hurdles that resulted in significant budget overruns.

Securing Key Defense Contracts

While serving as interim CEO, Parker adeptly guided Boeing’s defense unit, notably during a pivotal contract win. President Donald Trump announced that Boeing’s F-47 secured the Air Force’s sixth-generation fighter program, a crucial victory amid ongoing challenges with newer projects like the KC-46 and T-7.

Further Changes in Boeing’s Leadership

Parker’s official appointment aligns with another leadership change at Boeing, as the company revealed that former Lockheed Martin CFO Jay Malave will assume the role of finance chief starting August 15. Malave replaces Brian West, marking another strategic shift within Boeing’s executive ranks.
