This year’s SOF Week expo has confirmed an undeniable reality of the modern battlefield: the supremacy of unmanned aerial systems and loitering munitions. In a display of technological prowess, defense industry leaders showcased solutions that promise to redefine special forces tactics, emphasizing autonomy, extended range, and devastating firepower.

Rogue 1 Block 2: The Stealthy Predator with Doubled Reach

Teledyne FLIR captured the attention of experts with the Block 2 variant of its Rogue 1 system, a lethal, electrically propelled UAS. This new iteration marks a significant evolutionary leap: its operational range has been doubled, now exceeding 20 kilometers (12.4 miles).

Equipped with a new anti-armor „shape charge jet” payload, the Rogue 1 Block 2 is specifically designed to neutralize hardened vehicles. Beyond its destructive power, the system integrates advanced autonomy and electronic warfare resilience suites, enabling it to operate in contested environments where GPS or communication signals are jammed. Initial deliveries are scheduled to begin by the third quarter of 2026.

The Architecture of Destruction: From Mayhem 10 to Switchblade 400

Another major attraction was the unified display from AV and BlueHalo, featuring the Mayhem 10 launched effect. This versatile system, capable of conducting both intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) and precision strike missions, utilizes a Common Launch Tube and can be equipped with the Javelin multi-purpose warhead. While it has only undergone ground testing so far, its potential for air-launch deployment promises unprecedented tactical flexibility.

Simultaneously, the Switchblade family has expanded with the new SB 400. This fixed-wing loitering munition combines the lethality of the Javelin warhead with a reduced form factor, thanks to an optimized gimbal in the nose section. Recently brought under contract for major military programs, the SB 400 represents the cutting edge of pinpoint strikes against high-value targets.

Industrializing Lethality: Thousands of Units Under Global Demand

Beyond technical specifications, the significant news lies in the capacity for industrial-scale production. Industry representatives confirmed that systems like the Mayhem 10 and Switchblade 400 are ready for mass production, with the potential to manufacture „thousands of units” per month based on operational demand signals.

To sustain this accelerated pace, a new manufacturing facility dedicated exclusively to loitering munitions is set to be established in Salt Lake City. The facility, scheduled to become operational in January 2027, is a direct response to the urgent need to replenish and expand modern arsenals in the face of emerging global security challenges.
