London Plans Confidential Briefings for Strategic Companies

The British government will hold confidential meetings with chief executives from the defense and critical-infrastructure sectors as it seeks to respond to threats attributed to Russia.

In a joint statement issued Friday, the Ministry of Defence and the Cabinet Office said Armed Forces Minister Louise Sandher-Jones would chair a briefing for domestic defense companies. Security Minister Dan Jarvis will lead a separate meeting for organizations operating critical infrastructure.

The briefings will take place in government buildings in London’s Whitehall district. The government has not provided a specific timetable for the meetings.

Britain Warns of Covert and Hybrid Warfare

The British government says Russia represents a persistent and significant threat to the United Kingdom and its interests around the world.

According to officials, Russia and groups acting on its behalf are deliberately seeking to disrupt companies and organizations that support the British way of life or play a vital role in supporting Ukraine’s defense.

London accuses Moscow of using cyberattacks, sabotage and disinformation campaigns to take organizations offline, disrupt economic activity and undermine public trust.

Intelligence Agencies to Present Threat Assessments

The briefings will draw on information provided by British intelligence agencies. Their purpose is to help companies in strategic sectors better understand the methods used in hybrid operations and strengthen their protective measures.

The initiative follows an assessment by Danish intelligence officials warning that Russia could increase the frequency of hybrid attacks against NATO member states in the near term.

Moscow has repeatedly rejected allegations of involvement in sabotage, describing them as Western provocations. The Russian Embassy in Denmark said Copenhagen had once again invoked “hybrid threats” to justify rapid militarization and claims about potential Russian aggression against NATO countries.

Industry Calls for Greater Clarity and Funding

ADS, the trade association representing companies in Britain’s aerospace, defense, security and space industries, said the threats facing those sectors were not new but had become increasingly visible and complex.

The organization warned that, in an era of hybrid warfare, the United Kingdom needs a security posture capable of addressing a multidimensional threat environment.

At the same time, industry representatives are calling on the government to clarify when Britain will meet NATO’s target of allocating 1.5% of gross domestic product to security and critical national infrastructure.

Investigation into Alleged Plan to Set Fire to Drone Factory

The government’s warnings have been reinforced by a criminal case now before the British courts. Earlier this month, a British man was accused of planning to set fire to a drone factory in the United Kingdom on behalf of Moscow.

Prosecutors charged him with assisting a foreign intelligence service and intending to commit, or participate in preparing, an act of sabotage. According to authorities, the allegations are based on purported communications with another individual suspected of links to the GRU Volunteer Corps, a group controlled by Russia’s military intelligence service.

British media reports said the suspect had allegedly researched four drone-manufacturing sites in the town of Swindon, in southwest England.

British Drone Factories Support Ukraine’s Long-Range Campaign

Drones manufactured in the United Kingdom are used both by the British armed forces and by Ukraine. The systems are supplied to Kyiv as part of its long-range strike campaign targeting Russian positions and facilities far behind the front line.

The strategic importance of these industrial sites makes them potential targets for sabotage and cyber operations. Against this backdrop, the meetings planned in Whitehall are intended to strengthen cooperation among the government, intelligence services and companies responsible for the country’s defense and critical-security infrastructure.
