In a significant step to bolster its military capabilities, Lithuania has decided to procure three C-390 multimission aircraft from Embraer, making it the 11th customer to choose this innovative platform.
Strategic Choice for National Defense
Loreta Maskaliovienė, Lithuania’s Vice Minister of National Defence, emphasized the thorough evaluation process that led to selecting the C-390 Millennium. „We have assessed the available military transport aircraft, and the C-390 stands out as the optimal solution for our operational needs,” she stated. The decision paves the way for further negotiations, with hopes of finalizing the acquisition soon.
Enhancing Defense Relations with Embraer
Embraer’s Defense & Security President and CEO, Bosco Da Costa Jr., expressed pride in the selection by Lithuania, highlighting the company’s dedication to enhancing European defense capabilities. This decision arrives amid a wave of interest in the C-390, Embraer’s flagship in defense offerings.
A Triumphant Week at Le Bourget
The announcement at Le Bourget marks the third consecutive day Embraer has secured new commitments for the Millennium. Earlier in the week, Portugal expanded its C-390 fleet, with a future purchase option that could involve other NATO members. Additionally, the Netherlands recently contracted a new aeromedical evacuation version of the aircraft, emphasizing the C-390’s versatility.
A Rapidly Expanding European Presence
The C-390 Millennium is experiencing a surge in interest across Europe. Austria, Sweden, the Czech Republic, and the Netherlands have all placed orders, and Slovakia has declared plans to join the ranks. Hungary and Portugal are currently operating the aircraft, while Brazil, South Korea, and an undisclosed customer complete the expanding list of users.
Overall, Lithuania’s decision underscores the growing preference for the C-390 Millennium in meeting modern military transport needs and Embraer’s strengthening role in global defense markets.
