News reports about artificial intelligence often revolve around the specialized chips needed for compute power, and the sensitivity of potential adversaries gaining access to such integrated circuits. The power of what these chips can do that’s never been done before repeatedly shakes up military and commercial sectors.

Kamiwaza, an AI orchestration engine company, is collaborating with Intel to innovate and create new AI-generated outcomes for Department of Defense (DoD), federal, and state entities. Luke Norris, CEO and co-founder of Kamiwaza, discussed their partnership and its impact on public sector missions.

AI for Public Sector Mission Impact: Kamiwaza’s Role

Kamiwaza’s AI orchestration engine enables massive dispersed data sets to be rationalized and fused together to achieve mission results. One project involved working with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) CISA (Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency) to understand how barometric pressure systems were changing and their impact on the environment.

Norris explained that they are currently working on several projects with the Air Force and other branches to extend critical event planning and weather correlation planning systems to help missions across the DoD sectors.

Smart Base, City, or Venue: A Critical Event Planning Scenario

One major initiative is the concept of a smart base, city, or venue. Kamiwaza’s AI system can correlate 90 years of public and private information to help build plans for future events.

For example, if NOAA forecasts a very low barometric pressure event in a specific region, the AI system can cross-correlate that forecast with historical barometric pressure events in that area. It can then identify the impacts of similar events, such as airport closures, highway closures, fallen trees, and emergency room surges.

Based on this information, the AI system can build a reverse canonical plan, proactively suggesting actions like pre-stationing troops, pre-positioning emergency response suppliers, and bringing in additional resources. This level of capability was not possible just two years ago.

Intel Partnership and Silicon Neutrality

Kamiwaza aims to be „silicon neutral,” ensuring that customers can run outcomes on the right silicon based on their needs. The company partnered with Intel through the Liftoff for Startups program to optimize its code for Intel® Xeon® 6 and Gaudi® 2 and 3 chips.

Intel provided Gaudi 3 servers in its cyber cloud and a technical team to maximize the capabilities of the chips. When DHS expressed concerns about the water usage and thermal load of running a large AI system, Kamiwaza was able to demonstrate the efficiency of the Gaudi 3 system and its environmental impact.

Securing the US Industrial Base

The partnership helps secure the US industrial base by ensuring an American-made and secure supply chain for AI systems. Working with Intel removes many security concerns, and Kamiwaza can provide documentation and connect customers with Intel to verify the supply chain and American innovation. The effectiveness and efficiency of the Gaudi 3 chips further strengthen this win-win situation.
