The Poles lend a hand to the Hungarian military to get acquainted with the new Leopard 2 tanks
Representatives of the Hungarian Army paid a visit to Poland, to the Wesola garrison. During this visit, the Hungarians got acquainted with the military equipment used by the Poles, especially with the main battle tanks Leopard 2.
In the context in which Hungary is going through a acquisition process with Leopard 2, the Poles from Defense 24 write that the visit was aimed at an exchange of experience in which the Hungarian military became acquainted with Leopard 2 tanks.  At the same time, the quoted source also states that the Hungarian side also became familiar with the maintenance systems of Leopard 2 tanks in the A4 / A5 and 2PL versions of the Poles. The visit may mark the beginning of cooperation between Poles and Hungarians in the use of these weapons platforms.

Poland has 142 main battle tanks Leopard 2 A4, purchased in 2002 by the Polish army from the Bundeswehr (German Army) stocks. We remind you that Hungary signed a contract for the acquisition of German Leopard 2 tanks in December 2018, as part of the Zrínyi 2026 military development and endowment program. Under the contract, German company KMW will produce 44 new Leopard 2 tanks of the A7 + standard (their delivery is expected to be completed by 2023) and supply 12 additional Leopard 2A4 tanks from the company’s existing stocks to the Hungarian Armed Forces, which will be used by the Hungarian military for training. In this regard, in July 2020, our neighbors announced that the first Leopard 2A4 tanks, purchased from Germany, had arrived at the Hungarian Land Forces. Currently, the Hungarian Armed Forces is moving from the former Soviet tank model, the T-72, to the most modern version of the German battle tank, the Leopard 2 A7.
