Northrop Grumman has recently concluded a co-production agreement to manufacture medium-caliber ammunition in Ukraine, marking the first instance of a US defense company producing weaponry within Ukrainian borders amid the ongoing conflict.

Despite this milestone, Northrop personnel will not be present in Ukraine during the production process. A company spokesperson affirmed to Breaking Defense that the work will be conducted from their facilities in the United States.

Under the agreement, Northrop Grumman will provide the necessary equipment and training to establish an assembly line for the production and testing of advanced medium-caliber ammunition by Ukrainian firm Ukroboronservice in Ukraine, as mentioned by the spokesperson.

The agreement signing occurred at the Ukrainian embassy, as disclosed by Steve O’Bryan, Northrop’s Global Business Development Officer, during a panel at the NATO Public Forum in Washington. He emphasized that this marks the first co-production agreement signed by a US company in Ukraine, emphasizing local production by Ukrainians.
