The Israeli Ministry of Defense has signaled a massive escalation in its aerial capabilities, announcing the acquisition of two additional fighter jet squadrons. Following the recent campaign against Iran, Jerusalem is moving to finalize deals for its fourth F-35 squadron and second F-15IA squadron, a move that cements the Israeli Air Force (IAF) as one of the most formidable air powers in the world.
The Hundred-Jet Milestone: Stealth and Heavy Firepower
Valued at tens of billions of NIS, these agreements encompass full fleet integration, long-term logistics, and sustainment support. By boosting its F-35 „Adir” fleet to 100 aircraft, Israel joins an elite tier of global operators—trailing only the U.S., UK, Italy, and Japan in total fifth-generation stealth airframes.
Complementing the stealth of Lockheed Martin’s F-35 is the raw power of Boeing’s F-15IA (the Israeli variant of the F-15EX). This „high-low” mix ensures that Israel maintains what Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described as „overwhelming air superiority.” Netanyahu highlighted that the IAF’s reach now extends to any coordinate in Iranian skies, a capability validated during the high-stakes Operations „Rising Lion” and „Roaring Lion.”
„Shield of Israel”: A 350-Billion NIS Blueprint for the Future
This procurement marks the opening salvo of a 350-billion-NIS force buildup plan designed to navigate an intense decade of security threats. Defense Minister Israel Katz emphasized that the „Shield of Israel” strategy is built on the lessons of recent conflicts, requiring a permanent qualitative military edge. The plan transcends traditional aviation, aiming for a „technological leap” that includes autonomous flight systems, next-generation defense shields, and establishing military dominance in space.
Multi-Domain Expansion and the Hint of Domestic Innovation
The IAF’s overhaul is comprehensive, featuring new CH-53K heavy-lift helicopters, KC-46A tankers, and 30 additional Apache attack helicopters. Simultaneously, the U.S. has cleared the way for Israel to procure 10,000 Advanced Precision Kill Weapon Systems (APKWS), a deal worth nearly $1 billion.
Beyond foreign acquisitions, Jerusalem is doubling down on domestic production. Prime Minister Netanyahu teased a secretive project to develop „groundbreaking Israeli-made aircraft,” signaling a push toward greater industrial self-reliance. Combined with the modernization of ground forces and artillery, Israel is positioning itself for a decade where technological supremacy and rapid offensive capabilities remain the primary deterrents against regional adversaries.
