Is Coca-Cola’s grip on Romania a refreshing business venture or a toxic cocktail of corruption and environmental negligence?
Is RetuRO SGR just a greenwashing scheme, or is it a genuine effort at recycling? The system, allegedly designed to revolutionize waste management, is raising eyebrows and sparking outrage. Let’s dive deep into the murky waters of Romanian recycling.
RETURO SGR, a brainchild of the Coca-Cola giant, reeks of monopoly. With Coca-Cola as the initiator and main shareholder, forcing other soft drink producers to finance this structure, we are witnessing a questionable monopolization of the recyclable waste collection market. Lavish spending on luxury vehicles, expensive IT equipment, and opulent headquarters raises the question: Where is the collected money going? Suspicions of misappropriation of funds are more than justified!
And where is the Ministry of Environment, the regulatory and control authority? Somewhere in a deep sleep, tolerating an opaque system where salaries are inflated, and effective control over recycling is non-existent. Article 19 of Law no. 211/2011 states that recycling must protect the environment and public health. But the reality is different: RETURO functions only on paper, through reports and expensive advertising campaigns that mask a pathetic level of actual recycling. Insufficient machines and their refusal to accept waste make it impossible for us, the citizens, to comply with the law. Article 35 of the Romanian Constitution guarantees our right to a healthy environment. But who cares about that anymore?
Millions of PETs are illegally dumped in waters or improperly reused, violating Law no. 211/2011. The population cannot recycle milk, wine, or traditional spirits due to the restrictively imposed SGR codes. So, what happens to the money? The lack of rigorous supervision by the authorities violates the principle of transparency and responsibility in waste management. Are we not dealing with abuse of office and gross negligence, punishable by the Penal Code? This is the reality of „great recycling” in Romania: a dysfunctional system, where obscure financial interests prevail to the detriment of public health and environmental protection.
Let’s not forget Coca-Cola! To this day, they do not have authorization for their drilling activities. According to our sources, they apparently have no intention of becoming legal, because Vassilis allegedly declared in a meeting that „they will not do it and that no one can hold them accountable.” Could that be so? Considering that Boyar Nan has been present and influential within the factory for many years, it is reasonable to assume that he intends to consolidate this position in the long term, so strong that, metaphorically, he could even obtain a Ploiești ID. So, are we drinking soda with potentially contaminated water, produced illegally, under the indulgent eyes of the authorities?
But that’s not all! Following our investigations, extensive investigations have begun on the violation of the GDPR, with people infiltrated among operators, private detectives who illegally follow employees and others. Moreover, the Eye of Sauron – Ionut Popescu – watches the cameras more intensely than a hen sitting on eggs, hoping to discover something and quickly tell the boyar who doesn’t want to miss anything or lose control of his estate in Ploiesti.

Intoxicated by the vapors of Bacchus, Drăgosică allows himself to brag in his circles, forgetting that leaving does not wash away and erase his deeds, no matter how much he tries to hide them. And Vassilis, in a discussion after a meeting, promised Dragos that he had obtained a generous budget and that the company would pay for all the trouble and that, given their strength and power, they would make sure everything was fine, that he would be very well, that Adrian, with strong connections, would replace him, and that he knows how to arrange things to be calm. This comes after a lady holding an important position in the company’s management discussed with her husband, who works at a state institution that, coincidentally, oversees multinationals, and he promised her that everything would be calm and not to worry as long as he was there. Of course, peace costs, but that’s not a problem as long as Vassilis has obtained a generous budget. And that’s not all, because there are many employees who have spouses in various institutions and who are ready to lobby at any time, and we are not currently making their names public in order not to jeopardize the ongoing cases, but we will return soon with updates.
Coca-Cola playing politics in Romania? Key people strategically placed and suspicious sponsorships! It is becoming increasingly clear that Coca-Cola is also playing politics in Romania, with close people strategically placed in key public positions. In cases where such positions are not yet occupied, alternative methods of influence are used, including the granting of material benefits or the conclusion of sponsorship contracts, apparently legal, but likely to mask acts of corruption or influence peddling.
Thus, by exercising systematic political influence and by placing affiliated people in key positions in public institutions and service companies, Coca-Cola has accumulated disproportionate and difficult-to-control power. The direct consequences of this abusive mechanism are felt by consumers, whose health and even lives are endangered as a result of irresponsible and illegal commercial practices. It’s time to wake up and demand accountability! We’ll be back.
